Offsetting our impact
Producing a high quality printed product with as little environmental impact as possible is very important to us at Mountain View Printing & Graphics Ltd., which is why we constantly review our processes to ensure we are doing the best we can.
Last Earth Day we shared information about our in-house recycling program, our use of low Volatile Organic Compounds and plant-based inks, and how we reuse and refurbish our digital press cartridges and parts. This year we are excited to tell you we reduced our ecological footprint even further to continue offering you printing you can be proud of.
Repurpose, reuse, reduce, and recycle
As recycling processes evolve so does our in-house recycling program. We continue to recycle all of our production waste and anything with the recycle symbol on it, and are now recycling all plastic skid wrap and plastic strapping. Our wooden pallets get used and reused over and over again, but if deemed unsafe, they too are recycled and made into wood chips. All of our packing materials, such as cardboard boxes, stuffing, and chip board are reused, repurposed, or recycled.
A big change we took on was switching to chemical-free plates for our offset press. Not only are the Kodak Sonora XP plates better for the environment, they are quicker to produce and still provide a high quality, consistent print. The photo below is part of the colour calibration process for the new chemical-free plates.
Happy Earth Day everyone. Please be kind to our environment every day, it’s the only home we have.
